Ukrainian World Congress supports the Ukrainian nation

in its struggle for Euro-integration and democratization

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) supports the Ukrainian nation which, in large numbers and with widespread actions in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine, is demonstrating its decisive will to live in a European and truly democratic state.

On 30 November 2013 in Kyiv the militia violently met those who attempted to realize their democratic right to a peaceful gathering. Pressure continues to be exerted on protesters, including students. As a result, the UWC calls upon the governing authorities of Ukraine to immediately cease all use of force and any form of pressure on protesters.

“The UWC confirms that it will continue to carefully monitor the adherence by Ukraine’s governing authorities to fundamental human rights and freedoms, and to cooperate in this regard with international institutions, stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “In addition, the UWC calls upon the governing authorities of Ukraine to hear the aspirations of the Ukrainian people for Euro-integration, and to resolve the issue of Ukraine’s Euro-integration exclusively with the European Union without inviting Russia to the table as a third party.

The UWC also denounces the pressure being exerted by Russia on Ukraine which violates namely the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons with which Russia committed “to refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.”
