PRESS RELEASE
UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO THE VICTIMS OF FLOODING IN BRAZIL
The Ukrainian World Congress expresses sincere sympathy on the destructive floods and mudslides in Brazil which have resulted in numerous deaths and tremendous losses becoming the worst natural disaster in this country’s history.
This natural catastrophe, the result of prolonged torrential downpours, has engulfed a large territory of the state of Rio de Janeiro and, with renewed force, has now spread to the neighbouring state of São Paulo. According to most recent reports, almost 800 people have lost their lives in the flooded areas, private and state assets have been damaged or destroyed, energy supplies and telephone contact have been disrupted, and drinking water is in short supply along with food and medication.
“The Ukrainian World Congress expresses sorrow to those affected by the flooding in Brazil and calls upon the Ukrainian community to pray for the victims of this natural disaster and for a quick end to the destruction”, stated Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij.
