Western Balkans countries support candidate status for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama, Montenegro Dritan Abazovych and the Republic of Northern Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevsky issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine’s candidate status, as stated by

President Zelensky during a briefing with the Prime Ministers of Albania and Montenegro in Kyiv, reports Ukrinform.

Mr Rama added, “I would like to say that the three of us [with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Northern Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski – ed] will add… our names to your joint statement, because we do not want anyone to speculate that the European Union will somehow bypass us or that we are bypassed by Ukraine. That is not the case.”
