June 12, Berlin: On the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, a delegation from the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) met with the leadership of Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s electricity transmission system operator, to discuss further cooperation in restoring the nation’s energy infrastructure and preparing for the upcoming winter.
The UWC delegation included President Paul Grod, Director of the Energize Ukraine initiative Yarema Kovaliv, UWC Vice President Zenon Potoczny, and UWC Vice President of Operations and Head of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko. Representing Ukrenergo were Chairman of the Board Volodymyr Kudrytskyi and Head of Ukrenergo digital solutions Andrii Nemyrovskyi.
During the meeting, the parties focused on strategies for repairing and strengthening Ukraine’s energy system, which has been severely damaged by Russian missile and drone attacks. This year, the Energize Ukraine initiative delivered specific equipment worth $368,239 USD to Ukrenergo, thanks to donations from supporters in North America.
As President Zelenskyy reported, the Russian Federation has destroyed 9 GW of power capacity, 80% of thermal generation, and one-third of hydro generation. Last winter, peak electricity consumption reached 18 gigawatts per day, highlighting the urgent need for robust energy infrastructure.
On January 18, 2023, Energize Ukraine and Ukrenergo signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which involves seeking and securing funding for equipment to restore the Ukrainian energy system. As part of this cooperation, it was agreed that this funding would be sourced from both public and private sectors.
Join us in helping Ukraine withstand this winter and overcome the Russian aggressor.
