UWC Calls for Terrorist State Designation for Russia

The Ukrainian World Congress strongly supports the recent resolution of the U.S. Senate calling for U.S. Secretary of State to designate the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.  Furthermore, we urge all democratic governments and the international community to undertake the necessary steps to designate Russia for what it truly is – a terrorist state.

“I call on all peace-loving citizens of the world to advocate with their governments and elected representatives to persuade them to take this important step,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.  “This is only possible if each of us takes it upon ourselves to individually call, send emails, write articles and posts, and request meetings with government officials to deliver this message.  National and global Ukrainian community organizations are much more effective if politicians hear directly from individuals.”

In Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces are committing heinous war crimes and atrocities. Indiscriminate bombing of peaceful citizens, deliberate carnage on Ukrainian people, mass torture, rape, murder of civilians and the recent slaughter of Ukrainian POWs in Olenivka – all this is genocide and appalling inhumanity.

The US, Canada, UK, EU and Japan among others, should immediately and officially recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and revoke all tourist visas to Russian citizens.

“Russia’s brutality against the Ukrainian people has gone far beyond the very concept of terrorism.  Russia brings death, grief and suffering to millions only to satisfy the sick imperialistic ambitions of its leadership. It is clearly a terrorist state and pure evil. Moscow must be punished by the most powerful and far-reaching sanctions,” said Paul Grod, UWC President.  “Russia must be expelled from institutions like the UN, G20, OSCE and instead added to the club of terrorists states like Iran, North Korea and Syria.”

Labeling a country as state sponsor of terrorism could have a range of powerful impacts, including the imposition of economic penalties on dozens of other nations that continue to do business with Russia, the freezing of Russian assets in the United States, and the prohibition of a variety of exports that have both commercial and military uses.
