The Belarusian opposition on Thursday officially recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people and condemned the crimes of the communist authorities against the national republics of the U.S.S.R. in the interwar period, the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus reported on its Telegram channel.
“This is another fact that connects the history of the Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples,” the report emphasizes.
“We resolve to recognize the criminal policy of the communist state against the people of Ukraine, which led to an artificial famine in 1932-1933, as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people and a crime against humanity. We also condemn this and other crimes of the communist government against the national republics of the Soviet Union in the interwar period,” the document reads.
The resolution expresses “unconditional support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who have become victims of this inhumane policy,” and states that “a dignified future for the peoples of Ukraine and Belarus will be possible only as a result of a consistent policy of decommunization and a return to national values.”
